Welcome to Central and Southern Ohio . An area rich in history and progress from the riverbanks of the Ohio to Columbus.

This region is as diverse as the State itself from the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to the plains area of central Ohio . The Area consists of 17 Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Major watersheds making up the region include the Scioto and Hocking Rivers , Raccoon, Ohio Brush, White Oak, Little Scioto, Symmes, and Leading Creeks and many smaller tributaries to the Ohio River .

Natural resources have been a big part in the area's development including rich farm ground, coal, oil, natural gas and iron ore deposits. Farms along the Scioto River are some of the oldest family owned farms in the State. The forested areas served as a source for charcoal to fire the iron furnaces of the region and today continue to provide lumber for furniture and construction industry as well as pulp wood for paper production.

Development continues to be a challenge for the northern districts with some of the fastest growth areas in the United States and the largest city ( Columbus ) in Ohio .  Districts are working hard to meet the needs of the challenges of the region.
