Soils

"Stop treating our soil like dirt"

Soil is a dynamic resource that supports plant life, the unsung hero, the underlying factor. It is made up of different sized mineral particles, sand, silt, and clay, organic matter and numerous species of living organisms. Thus, soil has biologic, chemical and physical properties most of which are dynamic and most properties change in response to how the soil is managed

Management that enhances soil quality will benefit:

bulletCropland productivity
bulletWoodland Productivity
bulletSupport homes, buildings and open space in developed areas
bulletProtect water quality
bulletSupport wildlife habitat

Proper management can help reduce on-site and offsite costs of soil erosion, improve water and nutrient use efficiencies and ensure the resource is sustained for the future. Healthy soils support healthy ecosystems and healthy life.
