"SWCDs Go Metro"

Don''t be decieved by all the attention rural landowners get from soil and water conservation. Our urban soil and water conservation district programs are among the most popular and progressive in the state. SWCDs impact the lives of millions of Ohioans each day by providing homeowners, developers, and local officials with technical assistance, regulation administration, and resource management. With each person in Ohio using up to 143 gallons of water a day, our assistance is a necessity.

Some of the agencies assisted:

bulletPlanning Departments
bulletHealth Departments
bulletTownship Trustees
bulletMunicipal and Village Managers
bulletFloodplain Administrators
bulletCounty Engineers
bulletBuilding Code Departments
bulletHighway Departments

Planning and Health agencies depend on SWCDs for their expertise in soil suitability, brownfield remediation, stream and river flow capacity, and geographic information mapping. Township and municipal road departments seek out SWCD advice to help with curbing flooding and ditch erosion. And more recently, township trustees, county commissioners and county engineers in several counties have come to rely on their SWCD for management and technical assistance in dealing with reosion and sediment control regulations and the new federal storm water regulations.

Urban residents receive assistance from SWCDs on a daily basis as well. SWCD staff often gives advice about water draining around their home or backyard conservation programs to promote bird and wildlife habitat.
